Both in terms of academics and athletics, the university has really taken flight in recent years, thanks to the success of the LSUS Pilots and Lady Pilots. The LSUS Pilots and Lady Pilots compete in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The Pilots compete in baseball and basketball; the Lady Pilots in basketball and soccer. The Pilots baseball program gained national recognition in the 2003 season when the team made its first appearance in the NAIA World Series finishing in Third Place. The Pilots men’s basketball program has also set team and university records during the 2007-2008 basketball season, including a 2008 GCAC Championship.
